Program Objective: The
Department of Plant Protection, which consists of two main fields of
study—entomology and phytopathology—aims to train professionals and conduct
research in the identification of pests (insects, mites, nematodes, and other
insect pests), disease-causing agents (such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi),
and weeds that cause economic losses in plant production. The program also
focuses on determining their biological and ecological characteristics, their
interactions with plants and with each other, as well as strategies for their
management.
Core Courses in the Program: In
addition to fundamental science courses, the plant protection program offers
courses and practical training in meteorology, soil science, insect ecology,
insect taxonomy, plant bacteriology, plant virology, mycology, agricultural
pest management, vegetable diseases and pests, and diseases and pests of fruit
and vineyards.
Required Qualifications:
Individuals who wish to work in the field of plant protection are expected to
have an interest in fundamental sciences, especially zoology, botany, and
chemistry, and demonstrate success in these areas, along with a strong
scientific curiosity.
